Cybersecurity Competition Rules

New for 2019!  Put your cybersecurity skills to the test in our Red Team vs. Blue Team competition.  Teams will take turns attacking and defending computers, servers and networks.  The team with the most points wins.

Teams can be comprised of:

  • One student team lead
  • Up to 9 additional students

Teams can include no more than 3 graduate students.  Graduate students include any student pursuing additional studies after the award of a B.S., B.A. or similar degree.  Students taking graduate courses while still pursuing an undergraduate degree are not considered graduate students for the purposes of this rule.

  • One coach

Coaches do not participate in the competition.

The competition:

Teams will participate twice in each heat of the competition: once as a blue (defending) team and one as a red (attacking) team.  Each team will pick no more than 6 members for each round’s red and blue teams.  A team will not be asked to participate as both a red and blue team concurrently.

Teams will be scored based on system uptime and system exploitation.  Scenarios will vary from round to round.   The number of rounds will depend on the number of teams that register.
